BIOGRAPHY
Janine Hall has worked for years developing her skills in representational painting and drawing. Highly respectful of the sophisticated formal and technical conventions of western European representational art, she believes this rich tradition holds profound value for humanity. Her portraits express an insightful sense of presence and embody her ability to see beauty, purpose, and substance in all people. Whether a commissioned portrait like that of ALAN (Robertson), the respected Canadian actor and former Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Calgary, or in noncommissioned portraits of friend and fellow artist BOB (Pierce) or DANCER, the painting of a close friend’s daughter, Janine Hall’s portrait paintings always celebrate her subjects with insight, sensitivity and skill. Through the remarkable specificity contained in her portraits, Janine Hall’s ambition is much broader; her hope is that her paintings will help identify and record our collective spirit
EDUCATION
Janine Hall lives and works in Calgary, where she attended both the Alberta College of Art and Design and The University of Calgary. She received her Diploma in Painting from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 1987 and her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the same school in 2003.
